Planned for release in: 1997
Type: Racing / Action
Players: 1
Peripherals: Arcade Racer (Steering wheel)

Destruction Derby 2 was developed in 1997 by Probe UK, an Acclaim team which handled most conversions (Alien
Trilogy
, Mortal Kombat II, Hexen etc). This version contains two discs; one 'Game section' disc with a playable track
and one labeled 'Frontend' with -you guessed it- the game's frontend. Both discs feature what seems very early data.

The game's frontend is very incomplete with ugly buttons and graphics straight from the PC version.
Most of the settings can be accessed but they don't do much. The pictures from the tracks work, the car models,
sound test and other media isn't there. Sadly, it's also impossible to start a game from this frontend, even with a
'clever' disc swap.

The game section features the Pine Hills track. Loads of textures are missing and there's not much left of the car.
There are also no cars on the track. The pit function, however, works. There's no lap count, so the only way to end
the game is to smash your car.

It's rumoured Probe also had a port of Psygnosis's Formula One game in development but this was denied by them
back in the day. It's tough to tell who would be the game's publisher but the natural guess would be Acclaim.
Perhaps Acclaim didn't think much of it and cancelled the development early on. (Acclaim were already phasing out
their Saturn releases in summer '97). Another company involved could be Perfect Entertainment who were offered
Destruction Derby 2 and were already working on the Saturn version of Adidas Power Soccer (which was completed
but also never released). All in all this is a disappointing prototype with only the 'bare' essentials in place.
